I was-Director of Region 8 (Europe, Africa, Middle East) for 1973 and 1974, and am greatly concerned by the implications of the Constitutional Amendment on the IEEE Annual Ballot. I advise the Institute’s world-wide membership to vote AGAINST, and offer the following observations:
the IEEE is the greatest electrical/electronic professional society in the world today – achieved by its ideal of trans-nationalism i.e. “the universality of engineering” It is volunteer-run and I am deeply concerned at the suggestion that paid-staff be part of any executive-process, except as advisors. Put briefly I call on the entire membership to vote AGAINST before the dead-line of 3-0CT and sum-up my advice by recalling the home-spun:
IF IT AIN’T BROKE, DON’T FIX IT.
